Saint-Martin Chamber of commerce (CCI Saint-Martin): bringing structure to the fishing industry, a means of training tomorrow’s professionals.

Even though fishing is a traditional and historical activity on Saint-Martin, bringing structure to the sector remains the best way to develop the trade, create jobs and added value.

It is with this in mind that the Saint-Martin Chamber of Commerce (CCI Saint-Martin) is offering the possibility to twelve young persons to train for the CAP poissonnerie (professional certificate in fishing), one of the recommendations after the diagnosis of the sector conducted by the ALVI firm upon request of CCI Saint-Martin in 2014.

This blended learning system was fashioned in partnership with the GRETA (center for adult vocational training) of St. Martin / St. Barthélémy and the Centre de Formation aux Produits de la Mer et de la Terre de Boulogne sur Mer (Training Center for Seafood and land products of Boulogne sur Mer - CFPMT).

The future professionals will conduct their training in two phases: the first in Saint-Martin with the GRETA until the end of December before leaving for Boulogne sur Mer, the first port of transformation for seafood of France, where they will be trained in the CFMPT.

CCI Saint-Martin is proud of this first step taken which will not only benefit the industry but young st martiners as well. Some places remain available and there is still time to apply for registration with the CCI Saint-Martin (Maison des entreprises, 10 rue Jean-Jacques Fayel in St. Martin, tel: 0590 87 84 42, fax: 0590 87 01 19 info@ccism.com).
